PhotoSecure and DNA Technologies Team Up to Combat Counterfeiting

January 31, 2002 - Canadian Firm Sends Anti-Counterfeiting Technology to Superbowl XXXVI

(Halifax, Canada) DNA Technologies, a division of CrossOff Incorporated (TSE:OFF), will see its award winning technology deployed at Super Bowl XXXVI. Working with partner, PSA Authentic, the DNA Matrix security taggant will be applied as an invisible marker to the 120 footballs used throughout the game to protect them from being counterfeited. The game-used balls will be eventually made available for sale to fans and collectors through the NFL and their licensees.

"Counterfeiting remains a huge problem in the sports collectibles and memorabilia industry," said Tom Nicolette, President of DNA Technologies. "We applaud PSA and the NFL for taking a stand to protect their branded products and for providing 'peace of mind' to the eventual consumer."

How it worksv Prior to the game, the invisible DNA-laced ink is applied to each football. NFL officials then take them to a secure location where they are issued throughout the game. As each ball leaves the field, the DNA Matrix reader verifies its authenticity. Although invisible to the naked eye, the DNA mark becomes fluorescent green when illuminated with the special reader. In using this method, authenticity can be determined many years from now even when the footballs have changed hands. The DNA ink is virtually impossible to decode.
